The WFFA and Juventus present ‘These Strange Things We Do’, a new documentary about Freestyle Football

The World Freestyle Football Association, together with Italian football giants Juventus FC, has announced this week the launch of These Strange Things We Do, a new, high-end documentary about Freestyle Football starring some of its greatest global talents.

The film, created by the prestigious Juventus Creator Lab, features four elite freestylers who participated in the 2024 edition of the World Freestyle Football Championship in Turin: Yoanna Dallier from France, Zulhilmi ‘Zhilmi’ Zuaswa from Malaysia, Caitlyn Schrepfer from the USA and Sebastián ‘Machine’ Peña from Colombia. The documentary explores their stories as they battle for the title of World Champion in the most competitive stage of the global Freestyle Football circuit.

“We are absolutely delighted with the amazing documentary the Juventus Creator Lab have created”, said Dan Wood, Head of Partnerships at the WFFA. “The piece truly embodies the spirit of Freestyle Football and presents the personalities of its four extraordinary protagonists in a new light, exploring not just their journey in sports, but also in life. We believe this is a fantastic benchmark for future content about our sport!”.

  • The Sports Committe of the WFFA announces the new regional quota for the 2025 Pulse Series

The Sports Committe of the WFFA announces the new regional quota for the 2025 Pulse Series

The Sports Committee of the World Freestyle Football Association has announced today the distribution of competitive slots in each of the five regions of the 2025 Pulse Series, the official regional qualifiers for the World Freestyle Football Championship, whose locations will be announced in the coming weeks.

In order to ensure a fair and balanced representation of competitors from around the globe, while maintaining the integrity and excitement of the event, the members of the Sports Committee have used a transparent and data-driven approach based on two key factors:

    1. Weighted World Ranking Representation (40%)
This reflects the current strength of each continent based on player positions in the top 100 of the World Rankings. Higher-ranked players have contributed more to their continent’s score, ensuring that regions with stronger competitors are fairly represented.
    2. World Freestyle Football Championship Performance (60%)
This reflects historical performance in the last three World Championships. Continents that have consistently performed well in recent years have been rewarded for their success.

The Sports Committee has chosen a 60:40 ratio in favour of the World Championship performance because, while the World Rankings are a key tool for the future of the sport, they are still in their early years and may not fully capture the competitive landscape yet. By placing more weight on proven performance in past championships, the Committee aims to ensure that the allocation reflects both current strength and historical excellence.

Besides that, and in order to help in the development of the sport all around the world, the Sports Committee has implemented a cap of 1/3 of the total competitors in each of the regions, that is, 5 slots per continent. This ensures a diverse and global competition, giving fans from all over the planet a chance to see their region represented on the biggest stage.

Lastly, the WFFA Sports Committee, together with the Board, has decided to allocate all available slots to physical events, meaning Pulse Online will be discontinued in 2025. This decision was carefully considered after reviewing the tournament’s last two editions and is based on two main reasons: first, to reward freestylers who make the effort to attend physical events; and second, the realisation that, although Pulse Online was created mainly for freestylers from smaller countries, it was not fulfilling its purpose, as all the winners came from nations with large and competitive freestyle communities.

Therefore, the spots for the 2025 edition of the World Freestyle Football Championship, both for men and for women, are allocated as follows:

To learn more about the calculations, please review the specific file, which has also been uploaded to the Rules & Regulations section of the WFFA website. For more information, please contact judging@worldfreestylefootball.org or follow the official channels of the Association.

  • The WFFA announces the latest update of the Rules of Freestyle Football

The WFFA announces the latest update of the Rules of Freestyle Football

The World Freestyle Football Association has announced today the latest update of the Rules of the Sport of Freestyle Football, which will be available in the Rules and Regulations section of the official WFFA website for everyone to review.

These Rules have been thoroughly created by the WFFA Sports Committee using the experiences and jurisprudence gained throughout the last years of competition at a global scale. They will be applied universally to all official WFFA competitions, and they will also be readily available for any Freestyle Football event organiser in the world who wishes to organise a Ranked event – or simply to follow the same protocols as the official tournaments of the Association.

The new Rules will be in application from January 1st, 2025 onwards. No Rules will be applied retroactively. It’s important to note that this update of the Rules does not include the Regulations for official events, nor the new Judging process, both of which are still in development and will be released in 2025.

Every freestyler or event organiser who wishes to send feedback and/or amendment proposals to the new Rules will be welcome to do so: they will just need to send an email to judging@worldfreestylefootball.org. The Sports Committee will then review the feedback and implement the changes they deem fit.

The World Freestyle Football Association has announced today that the Finals of WFFA Pulse Algiers, the official African qualifier for the 2024 World Freestyle Football Championship, will finally take place on an online basis on October 24.

The restrictions imposed by the Algerian government in the process of obtaining visas for the participating freestylers have prevented a significant number of said athletes from entering the country, which in turn has triggered the decision of the Association to change the format of the tournament to ensure fair participation for all qualified sportspeople.

The Finals of WFFA Pulse Algiers will now take place as a live online event on the YouTube, Facebook and Twitch channels of the Association. More details will be announced on the official social channels of the WFFA!

The World Freestyle Football Association (WFFA) has announced today an exciting new chapter in its partnership with football powerhouse Juventus and their innovative Juventus Creator Lab, this time to organise the most prestigious Freestyle Football event of the year: the World Freestyle Football Championship (WFFC).

The 2024 World Finals will take place in Turin, Italy between November 8th and 14th, utilising the cutting-edge facilities of the Juventus Creator Lab. This year’s event will feature a groundbreaking competition format, promising an unforgettable experience for both the 32 participating athletes —16 males and 16 females from all continents— and the fans all around the world.

This collaboration builds on a successful partnership that began in May 2023 when Juventus hosted the first-ever TikTok global Freestyle Football contest, won by Brazilian star Adonias, who became the official freestyler for the bianconeri. In May 2024, the Juventus Creator Lab launched the documentary Freestyle Saved My Life: The Story of Adonias Fonseca, highlighting his journey of overcoming obstacles through Freestyle Football. On the same year, Juventus was also present at the World Freestyle Football Championship in Nairobi, Kenya as an official media partner, broadcasting the World Finals on their TikTok channel —where Juventus ranks among the top 10 global brands— and rewarding selected finalists with tickets to a Serie A match at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

“It was a pleasure and an honour to collaborate with such an iconic institution as Juventus in the TikTok freestyle contest and after the success of their live streaming from our World Freestyle Football Championship in 2023, we are excited to evolve the partnership even further”, said Dan Wood, Co-Founder of the WFFA. “The next episode of our alliance was obvious: bringing the World Championship of our sport to Turin to offer both athletes and fans a unique experience. It will be a truly innovative move for a sporting World Championship, which is credited to the vision and skills of the Juventus Creator Lab team”.

“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with the WFFA and host such a prestigious event at the Juventus Creator Lab and here in Turin,” said Mike Armstrong, Juventus’ Chief Marketing Officer. “This aligns well with our vision to engage and inspire youth through on-pitch and off activities while striving to support the freestyle football movement worldwide. The WFFA continues to impress with growth figures, incredible talent and stories, and a global footprint which makes this unique for the organisation and city.”

The 2024 edition of WFFA Pulse Córdoba took place in Argentina between September 25th and 29th and brought the South American scene of Freestyle Football to a whole new level. The competition, organised in cooperation with the Asociación Cordobesa de Freestyle Futbol, featured not just a 1×1 battles competition to determine the seven South American representatives at the World Freestyle Football Championship later this year (4 women and 3 men), but also a series of tournaments (Challenge, Sick Three, Panna 1×1, Show Flow, Iron Man & Woman, and Routines) for the Pan American community to showcase all their skills and passion for the sport.

The qualifiers were held between September 25th and 27th at the legendary Estadio Kempes, a massive stadium that was once an official venue for the FIFA World Cup 1978, with the Finals happening on September 29th at the Plaza España, located at the very centre of the city. The local crowd enjoyed a magnificent show at the latter, with hundreds of fans cheering for the tricks of the best South American freestylers.

The competition crowned two legends of the sport: Laura Biondo, from Venezuela, took the victory in the female category, while Sebastián ‘Machine’ Peña, from Colombia, added his second consecutive gold in the tournament.

The excitement did not end there, as five more freestylers (two men and two women) earned their places in the upcoming World Finals:

    • Cata Vega, Chile
    • Moisés Carruyo, Chile
    • Juliana Jaramillo, Colombia
    • Nico Gondra, Argentina
    • Angie ‘Azumi’ Cepeda, Colombia

With a completely revamped show and four brand-new venues, this year’s event truly broke all records – including that of participants, with up to 272 freestylers taking part in the competition.

The event started with the qualifiers of a variety of competitions taking place at the Sports Hall of the Babylon Wellness Hotel and concluded with French rising powerhouse Tristan Gac, the current European champion, taking gold in the male 1×1 Battles category after beating Colombian superstar Sebastián ‘Machine’ Peña in the Grand Final. Dutch master and 2023 Super Ball champion Jesse Marlet had to settle for the bronze medal this time.

In the female Pro category, British teenage rising star Isabel ‘Izzy’ Wilkins repeated her extraordinary feat from 2023 and won gold yet again after defeating French icon Yoanna Dallier; yet another teenage promise, Sofie Johannsen from Denmark, took the third spot on the podium.

For the first time, the 2024 edition of Super Ball hosted the Footbag World Championships as well, an event organised together with the International Footbag Players Association.
