The 2023 edition of the Super Ball World Open, the greatest and most teeming Freestyle Football event on the globe, concluded on Friday, August 11th with an absolutely extraordinary Finals held at Park Gutovka in Prague, Czech Republic. Over 400 attendees from 52 countries, with a record-breaking 211 participants in the 1×1 Battles tournaments, graced the event with their presence this year.

The female 1×1 Battles Pro category showcased an unforgettable story as 15-year-old Isabel ‘Izzy’ Wilkins, from the UK, took the world by storm and claimed her first-ever pro title after unexpectedly defeating current World Champion Caitlyn Schrepfer (USA) in the decisive battle. Polish Aguska Mnich, the defending female champion of the Super Ball World Open, took third place this year.

In the male Pro category, Dutch hero Jesse Marlet made history by defeating multiple World and Super Ball champion Erlend Fagerli (Norway) in the semifinals and then beating US-American rising star Patrick Shaw in the final to claim the gold medal.

Besides the Pro bracket, the 1×1 Battles tournament also featured the Intermediate and Rookie categories; in the former, Ukrainian Di-sS won the title thanks to his victory against Malaysian Niokin, while in the latter, German freestyler JaKim took the crown after beating Italian Steghidozz in the final.

Following the best Super Ball traditions, the event featured six more categories, with an extra, innovative discipline for this year: the NextGen 1×1 Battle, created to showcase the amazing skills of freestylers aged 16 or less. Additionally, a classic competition, Kill the Beat, was completely rethought for this year with extraordinary results.

Here is the list of official champions, runners-up and third-placed athletes in the different categories at Super Ball 2023:

    • Iron Woman: Laura (Venezuela), Lucie (France) and Mariana (Colombia)

The biggest and most prestigious open competition in the Freestyle Football global circuit, Super Ball, will be back in 2023! This time, the event will feature a completely new and expanded outdoor location in the city of Prague, in the Czech Republic.

The 2023 edition of Super Ball will take place at Gutovka Park in the Czech capital, with the nearby Comfort Hotel Prague city East acting as the centre of operations. The best freestylers from all over the world, including an estimated 400 participants from over 40 countries, will gather between August 6th and 11th to show off their best skills in an attempt to be crowned champion across as many as 7 different categories for both male and female.

Over the week, the Comfort Hotel will also play host to the Freestyle Football Congress, a unique platform created by the World Freestyle Football Association (WFFA) to discuss and forge the future of the sport together with the global community.

Among the new features of this year’s edition of Super Ball will be a special opportunity for all freestylers under the age of 16: the newly created NextGen category. This is a mixed 1×1 battle competition which will enable all young talents to showcase their potential and prove themselves on the biggest stage. Also, for the first time ever, the Grand Finals will be held on a Friday, a decision aimed at giving freestylers a full weekend to enjoy themselves with the global community.

Just like its predecessors, Super Ball 2023 will be an open event. This means athletes of all levels and nationalities will be able to participate. The signups process will open on March 1st and close on July 30th; there will be no extensions this year, so all athletes who haven’t signed up by the end of the registration period will not be allowed to compete.

For the first time, the WFFA has set up a refund policy for registrations; athletes who can’t travel due to a justified reason (i.e. sickness, injury or denial of travel visa) can ask for their money back, but only before June 30th. The organising committee strongly recommends all athletes who need a visa to get their invitation letter first using the widget on the Super Ball website: once they are cleared to travel, they may sign up as participants.

    .
This year’s edition of the tournament will include 7 disciplines, each of them with its male and female categories:

    • Freestyle 1×1 Battles: the main competition of the event, a clash of individual quality and mental strength in which two athletes compete by showing their best skills to the team of judges.
    • Routine: a showcase of individual mastery in which an athlete demonstrates their quality alongside their music to impress and entertain.
    • Double Routine: a spectacle of synchrony in which two athletes work together to show their most amazing moves combined.
    • Sick Three: a competition looking for the best combination of 3 consecutive tricks.
    • Challenge: athletes must complete tricks from a criteria list to pass through each round, getting progressively more difficult and a limited number of attempts; specially designed for lovers of fast combinations with the lower body.
    • Kill the Beat: a competition in which freestylers need to mix their tricks with a set music track… in a live format!
    • Iron Man & Woman: a marathon in basic lower body combinations and stamina – only for the toughest athletes!
