The biggest and most prestigious open competition in the Freestyle Football global circuit, Super Ball, will be back in 2023! This time, the event will feature a completely new and expanded outdoor location in the city of Prague, in the Czech Republic.

The 2023 edition of Super Ball will take place at Gutovka Park in the Czech capital, with the nearby Comfort Hotel Prague city East acting as the centre of operations. The best freestylers from all over the world, including an estimated 400 participants from over 40 countries, will gather between August 6th and 11th to show off their best skills in an attempt to be crowned champion across as many as 7 different categories for both male and female.

Over the week, the Comfort Hotel will also play host to the Freestyle Football Congress, a unique platform created by the World Freestyle Football Association (WFFA) to discuss and forge the future of the sport together with the global community.

Among the new features of this year’s edition of Super Ball will be a special opportunity for all freestylers under the age of 16: the newly created NextGen category. This is a mixed 1×1 battle competition which will enable all young talents to showcase their potential and prove themselves on the biggest stage. Also, for the first time ever, the Grand Finals will be held on a Friday, a decision aimed at giving freestylers a full weekend to enjoy themselves with the global community.

Just like its predecessors, Super Ball 2023 will be an open event. This means athletes of all levels and nationalities will be able to participate. The signups process will open on March 1st and close on July 30th; there will be no extensions this year, so all athletes who haven’t signed up by the end of the registration period will not be allowed to compete.

For the first time, the WFFA has set up a refund policy for registrations; athletes who can’t travel due to a justified reason (i.e. sickness, injury or denial of travel visa) can ask for their money back, but only before June 30th. The organising committee strongly recommends all athletes who need a visa to get their invitation letter first using the widget on the Super Ball website: once they are cleared to travel, they may sign up as participants.

    .
This year’s edition of the tournament will include 7 disciplines, each of them with its male and female categories:

    • Freestyle 1×1 Battles: the main competition of the event, a clash of individual quality and mental strength in which two athletes compete by showing their best skills to the team of judges.
    • Routine: a showcase of individual mastery in which an athlete demonstrates their quality alongside their music to impress and entertain.
    • Double Routine: a spectacle of synchrony in which two athletes work together to show their most amazing moves combined.
    • Sick Three: a competition looking for the best combination of 3 consecutive tricks.
    • Challenge: athletes must complete tricks from a criteria list to pass through each round, getting progressively more difficult and a limited number of attempts; specially designed for lovers of fast combinations with the lower body.
    • Kill the Beat: a competition in which freestylers need to mix their tricks with a set music track… in a live format!
    • Iron Man & Woman: a marathon in basic lower body combinations and stamina – only for the toughest athletes!

The WFFA launches an official podcast with the best stories from Freestyle Football

The World Freestyle Football Association has announced a joint venture partnership with sports audio experts Voiceworks Sport, that will see the two organisations work together on the global governing body’s official podcast and audio strategy.

The partnership will launch with an initial podcast recorded at the Super Ball World Open, the WFFA’s flagship tournament. The All You Need Is A Ball content series will bring the latest news and stories from the event, giving Freestyle Football fans full access to the biggest names in the sport, telling the story of their route into the game and revealing the personalities behind “the fastest-growing sport you’ve never heard of.”

The wider series of the podcast will follow the Freestyle Football calendar, providing updates from major events and takes from big-name freestylers from around the world on the latest news, views and their own personal journeys.

Sophie Hind, Managing Director of Voiceworks Sport, said: “Sound and excitement feature in Freestyle Football in abundance. It’s a thrilling sport, and tailor-made for audio. We know that WFFA’s long-term ambition is to rub shoulders with other urban sports like 3×3 basketball, BMX freestyle and skateboarding at much-loved marquee events. Realising the scale of the audio opportunity, they came to us to develop their audio strategy. We jumped at the chance to work with them.

“We’re looking forward to working with the WFFA team for years to come. The partnership marks another exciting milestone in Voiceworks Sport’s own journey, as we work with some of the most innovative organisations, brands and governing bodies across sport.”

Dan Wood, Head of Partnerships at the WFFA, said: “Freestyle Football is a content-heavy, digitally-savvy sport where storytelling is rife. From the amazing athletes and their journeys, through to incredible destinations, unlocking cultures from all corners of the world and the building of a brand-new sport from scratch, there is a lot to talk about.”

“Partnering up with premium expertise of Voiceworks Sport and launching our own podcast was a logical next step in our growth. We are really excited to share our amazing community and journey with the world!”.

The All You Need Is A Ball podcast will be available on all podcast platforms, including, Audible, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Google Podcasts, on August 16th.

The World Freestyle Football Association (WFFA) has announced today the implementation of a new, key initiative in their global plan to promote equality in the sport of Freestyle Football. In order to offer female freestylers as many platforms as possible to show their skills and to support the development of the sport, this year’s edition of the biggest on-site competition in the global circuit, the 2022 Super Ball World Open, will offer a specific category for women in each and every one of its disciplines.

With this decision, the WFFA and the Super Ball organising committee are covering a historic request of the ever-growing female Freestyle Football community, whose count and competitive level have risen at an unstoppable pace in the last decade.

Minna Marlo, Head of Development at the WFFA, said: “The number of women competing at an elite level in Freestyle Football tournaments has increased dramatically in recent years. As the world governing body for the sport, we are fully committed to providing the necessary platforms to support and boost this growth, and hence we are really excited to offer this new opportunity to female freestylers”.

Lucaso Škoda, Head of Operations at the WFFA and Super Ball Chief Tournament Director, said: “Inclusion and diversity have always been ingrained in the spirit of Super Ball as a competition and as a community event, and hence for us it was just natural to expand the tournament to cater to the rising number of female participants. It makes us feel really proud to witness the development of the sport – and particularly, to be part of it!”.

The Freestyle Football community will have a great reason to rejoice in 2022: the biggest and most prestigious open competition in the world, Super Ball, will be back this year with an expanded setup and a long list of innovations and surprises.

Just as in the previous edition, Super Ball 2022 will take place in the Clarion Congress Hotel in the city of Prague. This year, though, the event will happen a week earlier than usual: the best freestylers in the world, including an estimated 300 participants from over 40 countries, will gather between August 9th and 13th in the capital of the Czech Republic to crown the champions in the male and female brackets of 8 different categories.

Co-organised by the World Freestyle Football Association, the 2022 edition of Super Ball will feature a much bigger setup than last season (twice the surface of the 2021 event) and a major innovation: the first Freestyle Football Congress, a unique opportunity to celebrate the community, imagine the future of the discipline and learn about the latest trends in sports with athletes and officials from all over the world.

The 2022 edition of Super Ball, just like its predecessors, will be an open event, and athletes from all nationalities and categories will be able to participate. The registration period will begin on June 15th, 2022: freestylers and fans from around the globe will find all key information about the competition on www.superball.world.

This year’s edition of the tournament will include 8 disciplines, each of them with male and female categories:

    • Panna KO: the legendary Street Football competition in which athletes must show their skills when attacking… and keep their feet together when defending!

    .
    Lukáš Škoda
, Super Ball Chief Tournament Director, said: “This year is particularly exciting for us. If 2021 marked the rebirth of the event after the pandemic, 2022 will represent an absolute explosion for Super Ball: we have doubled the capacity of the venue, we will offer the community more resources than ever before, and we have even added the first edition of the Freestyle Football Congress to the schedule. I have no doubt that this year will herald the start of a new era for the event – and the sport itself!”.

Steve Elias, President of the WFFA, said: “The WFFA has experienced a tremendous evolution in recent times, and this year’s edition of Super Ball will offer us a perfect opportunity to present the results of all this hard work to the global community. We have implemented a great deal of technologies and tools to help our athletes, and many more will be announced: I am really looking forward to doing so at the event!”.

Aguska Mnich, current Super Ball female champion, said: “Super Ball is a legend. For me it’s always an absolute pleasure to participate: I look forward to it every year. I have no doubt that the 2022 edition will be one of the best ever: I’ll be working very hard to renew my title there!”.

Erlend Fagerli, defending Super Ball male champion, said: “I am so excited for this year’s Super Ball! Everything I’ve been told about it makes me feel really hyped about the 2022 edition of the tournament. I’ve been working hard since last year and can’t wait to show some of my new tricks on the stage in Prague!”.

The 2022 Super Ball will be organised in partnership with local event production company PJ Art Production, an alliance that has guaranteed high-quality standards and success for the last 9 years in a row. Following the tradition of recent years, the 2022 event will be hosted by renowned Italian speaker Lorenzo Pinciroli, an unmistakable face for the Freestyle Football community.

The registration period will begin on June 15th, 2022: freestylers and fans from around the globe will find all key information about the competition on www.superball.world

    .
This year’s edition of the tournament will include 8 disciplines, each of them with their male and female categories:

    • Freestyle Battles: the main competition of the event, a clash of individual quality and mental strength in which two athletes compete by showing their best skills to a team of 5 judges
    • Freestyle routine: a showcase of individual mastery in which an athlete demonstrates their quality in sync with the music
    • Double routine: a spectacle of synchrony in which two athletes show their most amazing combined moves
    • Sick Three: a competition to find the very best combination of 3 consecutive tricks
    • Challenge: a distinctive category in which athletes perform predetermined tricks at their highest speed; specially designed for lovers of fast combinations
    • Show Flow: a competition for complete freestylers to demonstrate their absolute control over all aspects of the sport
    • Iron Man: a marathon in basic lower body combinations – only for the toughest athletes!

  • Aguśka Mnich and Erlend Fagerli claim the title of 2021 Super Ball champions

Aguśka Mnich and Erlend Fagerli claim the title of 2021 Super Ball champions

“Can nobody defeat the Fagerlis?” This could be the epic title of the 2021 Super Ball, a tournament that reached its climax on Saturday, August 21st with an authentic exhibition of freestyle football. A selection of the best athletes in the world battled in no less than ten different categories and celebrated the sport with the global community after a particularly difficult year due to the Covid pandemic.

In the male battle category, the Fagerli brothers were unbeatable until the Grand Final; Norwegians Erlend and Brynjar ended up first and second, respectively, and renewed their extraordinary record as the two most successful siblings in the history of freestyle football. Even with his magnificent performance, the 2020 Super Ball champion, Dutch Jesse Marlet, could not repeat the title this time and had to settle for third place.

In the female Grand Final, Polish star Aguśka Mnich defeated British sensation Lia Lewis, who put up a tremendously impressive display in her first-ever Super Ball (and live competition) participation. Yet another renowned star of the sport, Yoanna Dallier from France, claimed the third spot.

Super Ball offered plenty of spectacle in its many other categories as well. In the 1vs1 Panna KO competition, French Anas Boukami defeated Boston Jade, from the US, in the final; local Czech hero Martin Gajdos ended up third, and British Harriet Pavlou made history ending up in the fourth position – the first woman to ever reach this spot in the Super Ball Panna tournament.

    .
The Sick Three challenge saw local Czech talent
Danny Prazak beat German Chris Bennet Bröker aka CBB in the final to claim the title, with an unexpected third-place finish: Tony Ma, from Hong Kong. Vasek Klouda, the Czech legend of footbag (a brother sport to Freestyle Football), also participated and landed an amazing combo, but the judges found it wasn’t according to the rules of the competition, so he couldn’t make it to the podium in the end.

In the Routine competition, Nick Seyda from the USA took the crown, with Patrick Bäurer from Germany and Nicolas Rossier from Switzerland in the second and third positions respectively.

The Show Flow tournament, just like the male battles one, was claimed by Norwegian legend Erlend Fagerli. Crowd favourite Philip Warren Gertsson aka PWG and Álvaro López from Spain ended up second and third.

In the Ironman category, Dutch Bodhi Bos defeated Polish Olivier Grodecki from Poland in the final; Ethan Audiot, from France, took the bronze medal. French-Guyanese Wiwi claimed the title of Kill The Beat champion.

The Intermediate Battles saw Joshua Lockard from the USA taking the title, with Italian Giorgio Luppi and Belgian William Cochart finishing in the second and third spots. Last but not least, in the Rookie Battles, Alex Herbaut from France beat Dutch Mike van der Streek aka Mighty Mike in the Final; yet another Frenchman, Enzo Ruta, ended up in the third position.

The event, hosted at the Clarion Congress hotel in Prague, was live-streamed on the WFFA channels for the first time, with a luxury team of casters and commentators that included the likes of Pekko Piirto, Daniël Rooseboom, Paloma Mayo, Miran Pirner, Alex Hyland-Cid, Bailey de Regt, Mighty Mike and Kevin Medina. The 2021 Super Ball was judged by an elite team of officials led by Kitti Szász (the first female Head Judge in the history of the tournament) and consisting of Javi Sanz, Jordan Meunier, Mateusz Odrzygóźdź aka Lotar and Michał Rycaj aka MichRyc, as well as Miran Pirner, Pekko Piirto and Daniël Rooseboom. The tournament also saw the debut alongside the traditional Super Ball MC, Lorenzo Pinciroli, of promising names such as Nabil Hamza and Laura Biondo – the first time ever in which a female master of ceremonies co-hosted the Finals.
